We went to Simon to resolve our unique set of design issues - to turn our run down, dark 1930's bungalow into a modern, light filled and livable family home in which we could raise our young family. Throw in a triangular, sloping block, long front boundary and an existing house and pool which was less than ideally positioned. Simon and his team have resolved all of these issues, often using them to advantage. As a result we have a stunning, unique piece of architecture that functions effortlessly for our family of four. The innovative, one of a kind cladding, interior curves and Simon's trademark use of colour are the highlights. We love how the house turns heads and invites comments from passers by.
Throughout the process Simon was professional and easy to communicate with. Our brief was met and Simon was able to respond to our feedback and work through several design iterations in order to get to the finished product. During construction, Simon's oversight ensured that the quality of the build was always of a high standard.

“I had a tired inner-city townhouse in a unique heritage factory conversion that I had bought because I loved the location, but realised the interior demanded more than just a standard revamp. I had seen the advantage of working with an architect in a previous home. The choice of an architect was challenging, but I liked Simon’s work - clean lines, abundance of light and innovative design. Simon invited us to visit his practise, and homes he had worked on. He visited my existing home to look at what was important to me and what favourite pieces should be integrated into the design. He also encouraged us to look at designs we liked and feed those ideas through to him. He knew colour was an important part of the brief particularly a modern reworking of a traditional green kitchen. His attention to detail extended to the choice of lighting and window treatments. Simon helped manage the process through a sometimes complex process and was always focused on delivering a high-quality product. The work has resulted in a timeless design that respects the heritage environment. It is a joy to live in.”

“We approached Simon Pendal and Stephen Neille in 2012 with the ambitious aim to transform our living experience in our classic 80’s suburban bungalow to one which embraced concepts of the light and texture. Quickly a rapport of trust and respect was developed between us the clients and our architects, which encouraged them to challenge us with new concepts in the use of materials and colour to delineate different living spaces in the home. They also recommended a team of skillful builders and oversaw the multitude of details with a level of diligence that has rewarded us with the joy of a transformed living experience, still enjoyed 8 years after the process began. We especially love the use of wood, contrasted with black and white, which gives the house a striking Scandinavian feel and has created a beautiful relaxing environment for us and our 2 boys.
