In the middle of 2014 Pendal and Neille was invited via an expression of interest process to take part in a 2-stage shortlist national competition to design a Heavy Metals Laboratory (HML) for the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Hobart, one of the world's most experimental art and antiquities galleries.  The HML is intended to address the remediation of the Derwent River riverbed, a highly contaminated environment resulting from years of industrial runoff containing lead, zinc, mercury, copper and cadmium.  After completing two design stageswe travelled to MONA in early March 2015 to present our proposition to their expert advisory panel including scientists, architects, project managers and gallery staff.  Our scheme was verbally confirmed as having received a 'top three' placement.
